The future of agriculture in Ghana depends on how well we prepare and empower young people. It is not enough for them to simply observe; they must be given the chance to lead, test ideas, and develop practical solutions that move the sector forward.

At the African Agribusiness Consortium (AAC), this belief is at the heart of our work. Our rice trial farms are managed entirely by National Service personnel. From planning and fertilizer application to data tracking and monitoring, these young professionals have been fully responsible for the process.

Recently, the team completed our first rice trial of the year, with impressive results. One of the standout outcomes came from a plot that combined organic fertilizer with NPK, achieving a strong yield. Beyond the numbers, what makes this milestone significant is the fact that it was driven by a team of recent graduates who took ownership and delivered.

This kind of hands-on experience is vital not only for building careers but also for ensuring the sustainability of Ghana’s agricultural future.

We encourage more organizations to create opportunities for young people to lead meaningful projects. By giving them real responsibilities, we unlock innovation and ensure that agriculture remains a sector of pride, progress, and potential.
